Liberty wears a Phrygian cap, which identifies her as a freed slave, and is draped in the American flag as she walks to the left side of this face. In her left arm are symbols of civilian honors, laurel branches, and military honors, oak branches. She extends her right hand forward above the morning sun, as though presenting the new day to the holder.
