The 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle coin is made of 22kt gold alloy minted with gold mined exclusively from the American resources as stipulated by legislation. These coins are alloyed with silver and copper which makes them more wear-resistant coins and have a purity of 91.67% or 22k. Design of the Gold American Eagle Coin. The obverse of the 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle coin has remained the same since 1986 which features the depiction of the Lady Liberty which was designed by Saint- Gaudens.The Lady Liberty with flowing hair striding forward on the mountaintop with rays of the sun behind her, carrying a flaming torch in her right hand to represent the enlightenment, and an olive branch, a symbol of peace on the left is depicted on the obverse of the coin. The words "Liberty" appear prominently across the top of the coin and the image of the Capitol Building along with the mint year is displayed at the bottom. The reverse of the 1/4 oz Gold American Eagle Gold coin features the depiction of a family of American bald eagles which was designed by Miley Busek. The design features a depiction of a male eagle with an olive branch on its claw flying toward the nest where the female eagle awaits with her hatchlings. The phrase "United States of America" is displayed across the top and the purity and weight of the gold coin can be read at the bottom.
