Lamar died and left behind a 90-year collection of everything an engineer could ever want and keep, mostly coins and duck prints and golf clubs, oh my! Lamar served as a Navy Lieutenant in WWII and Korea aboard a number of submarines (including the USS Baleo and the USS Archerfish , both famous for their Pacific prowess and numerous kills, including an enemy Aircraft Carrier).

Like most in the class of'42, he joined the service the day after he graduated high school. After the War, he graduated from Compton College (where my grandpa,'Pop' Powars, was a coach) and then USC with a degree in mechanical engineering. He lived in the same California house for 45 years, which was stuffed full of treasures and junk. Dad was greatly impacted by the Great Depression, raising rabbits and garden veggies to survive, and so hoarded anything deemed even remotely, potentially useful in the next half century or more...

Especially gold and silver, food and water, and guns and ammo; Dad was an original Depression'prepper. He even had his own backyard fruit orchard. He was a handsome, smart and strapping young veteran when he first spotted my mom across campus after WWII. When he showed up at the annual Sadie Hawkins dance, my mom, the kind peace-keeper and beauty queen, asked my dad to dance, and they never again parted until her death. There will be hundreds of coins and some of his treasures, including items from his tenure at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee carefully preserved in his big house on the golf course.
